Recalled to Death-Codexes 1 to 9

Once so very long ago, during the time when the dream was not yet fully forged, and chaos ran rampant, there lived Altheium. He was a powerful master of his focii, and carried his double halo to prove it. But he was lonely. In his vast Variant, he lived alone, with only the Nightmares. They plauged his dreams for as long as he dreamed. And, despite his immense power, even he could be defeated.

The Nightmares could come at him in such numbers that he was incapable of stopping them. So in turn, he began in secret, to create the place we now know as Threshold, Gateway to Dream city. It was in his hopes, that he could create a safe place to be, where the Nightmares could not follow him. It was just after his completion of the task, that he realized what other joy he had brought himself.

Upon his completion of Threshold, he found that he was no longer alone. A woman appeared, by the name of Shellia. She was his sole comfort in the dream, and quickly fell in love with her. However, he knew he must save her from the darkness of the dream. After all, the dream was incomplete. With Chaos and Nightmares leaking in from many places, he warned her never to step outside Threshold.

Shellia had always been defiant, and he knew this. So when she told him that she wished to explore more the dream, he knew he simply could not stop her. However, he felt the need to protect her still. So, he taught her all he could, with his foci. With her help, fought back some Nightmares, and steadily she grew in power. He taught her as much as he could.

Eventually, Shellia requested to go out on her own. She felt confident in her powers, and figured there was no way she could be defeated. Altheium knew she could easily be overpowered, but knew he could not stop her. So he taught her the art of Recall. Whenever she was collapsed, her recall would bring her back to Sanctuary. He made her promise to use Recall whenever leaving Sanctuary.

This went on for a long time. And steadily again, Shellia grew in power. But Altheium knew this could not last. And he despaired for her. He, in his infinite wisdom, could see the dream falling apart. It was time for this Variant to fall. Altheium knew this, but he had been doing some experiments away from Shellia, to ensure that she would not worry herself. Altheium believed it was his burden to bear.

In his secret experiments, he discovered how to travel through Variants, but it required massive power, that could only be achieved through the use of his and Shellia's powers in tandem. So Altheium brought his ideas and concerns to her, in the safety of Sanctuary. Although she was furious with him for keeping secrets, she knew that they had no choice but to travel to a new variant.

Together they met within Sanctuary at the height of Mt. Illapse. Here was where they decided to leave this dream. As they began to focus their respective foci energies, the Dream shuddered around them, and began to collapse. This was it. The Variant was succumbing to the Chaos. But unified as one, Shallia and Altheium powered up their energies, and vanished from the dream.

They both appeared staring to each other's eyes, at the bottom of Mt. Illapse, in the midst of a battle. War raged around them. Altheium took Shellia's hand, and began to weave in and out of flying chakrams and blades. At least thirty dreamers surrounded them, like devils attacking every other person in sight. One powerful dream accidentally fired upon Shellia, to her collapse.
