The History of Chryseis

As I take a moment to sit back and ponder my life and the events that have transpired so far, I must readily admit that I have had a very blessed life. My childhood was simple, but happy. I would spend my days with my parents, listening to tales of the great City of Dreams, Underlight. As I got older I would spend more time roaming the island by myself, always searching for what lay around the next corner, my curiosity never wavering. The thrill of the search as exciting as the knowledge that was eventually learned. It was only after 19 years of our isolation on the isle of De'mmaps that my father Ghalleon finally discovered a way for us to leave, to return to the land of my parents birth. He had uncovered a long forgotten portal used by the ancient Wyrm, it allowed travel between the island and the lands of Cloudsbreak.

For me, the thought of leaving had never occurred. The island was my home, the place I had been born and raised. The idea of leaving, although exciting, was also filled with fear for me. So it was with great trepidation that I took my mother's hand and took that fateful step that would lead me to my destiny. The first few days of our arrival into my mothers lands are still a blur in my mind, what stands out most to me is the day I finally took a deep breath and told myself that there was no turning back, it was time to truly begin my life. It was that night as I lay down to sleep that peacefulness overcame me, unlike any other time in my life. I drifted off to sleep listening to my mother soft voice speaking of the Dream and her family that she missed so much.

As the night wore on I could hear a voice vaguely in the back of my head urging me to wake, that I needed to go home. I slowly opened my eyes, struggling to clear my mind…it was then that I saw a sight that will always live in my heart, my first view of Underlight. I was filled with wonder and awe as I slowly made my way around the Courtyard of Awakening. My fingers lightly grazing the stone of the building, touching it to be sure it was real. I paused at the center and stared at the symbols of the Houses, my eyes drawn to that of the Order. I slowly turned around until my eyes fell upon the now familiar flags of OoSM that flanked their entrance into Thresh. I stood before that portal for what seemed to be an eternity, knowing that once I walked through there would never be any turning back.

Summoning my courage I closed my eyes, held my breath and stepped through. As I entered the room I glanced around hoping to see some sign of my parents. But alas there was no one there. I wandered around the room a bit, examining the walls and symbols, trusting in my instincts and waiting. Eventually my parents made their way from the House to Thresh. I was never so happy to see my mother before in my life. As they arrived so did several other Dreamers, they kept introducing me to everyone, but my mind was beginning to go into overload…too much, too soon. I found it difficult to speak. Eventually they led my up the path to the House and it was then that I met my God Mother, my beloved Aunt Chanty, for the first time. The same Dreamer who would later honor me with my first sphere, and become my Mentor. It was also on that first say of my Awakening into the Dream that I had the honor of meeting Roland, Gwen, manA and Sir G.

As my mother showed my around OoSM I felt a sense of peace overcome me. I felt I had found the place where I did belong. I found myself spending quite a bit of my time at the House and with the members there. Eventually, after taking the time to truly be sure that what I was choosing was what I really wanted, I joined the Order. From all of this I have learned that some of the most significant changes in one's life occur when you take the time to face your fear and make that one small step.
