The History of Lostinnva

My family had been a close one. There were, of course, my mother and father then came Elsabetta, their eldest daughter; then Graggedo and Teeppo, twin brothers; and finally me, Lost. Now, why you ask would anyone name their daughter Lost? Well it really isn't my name, but it was my nickname. I've long since forgotten my given name for all I ever heard was "Lost where are you now?" all the time. Looking back I know this was the idyllic time in my life, before the Great Loss. We had been modest farmers in Cloudspeak for more generations then anyone could remember. Our farm was tucked away in a wonderful little valley in the northern end of our realm. Then one night Elsabetta awakened. She entered Underlight and observed all the things that were happening there. When she returned to us and spoke of all the wonderful sights and sounds, well the twins had to go. Nothing mother or father said would deter them. They, too, were successful and our family became the talk of the community.

No one else had one much less three members who could awaken. We must be a very special family indeed! Well as time passed my parents became curious and decided to go and see for themselves what Underlight was like. It was decided I wasn't old enough to awaken, so with much fussing and kisses I was left with an Aunt and Uncle with a farm down the road. None of us knew what a turning point it would be in all our lives. The day they awakened was in the quiet autumn after the harvest had been in completed. I was playing with my cousins when the pain struck. It was a searing, blinding pain that dropped me to my knees.

Screaming and pulling at my head all I could hope for was to die and end the pain. It ended as suddenly as it came and left me fainting in relief. As I came to, I realized that I had no idea where I was. It wasn't my Aunt and Uncle's farm and it wasn't my home either. All around me was extreme destruction and devastation. I couldn't understand what had happened. The people walking around were in a daze and they too didn't seem to understand. There were very few people left. Mostly there were these odd things lying on the ground. Some looked like a person, other like nothing I had ever seen.

I was finally able to find someone to help me. This very kind, gentle person had a bright halo above her. She told me she was a teacher and would be glad to help me. She explained what had happened. She explained that some things called nightmares had been able to flow into the city through cracks in the city walls. The cracks had come from the pressure of the chaos outside. This pressure that started to separate the walls. The poor city just popped like an over filled balloon. The nightmares had swarmed over the city destroying and tearing apart any dreamer they could find. Only the very few and lucky had escaped.

I told her of my family having come here and my extreme pain earlier in the day. At this she too became very sad and took me into her arms and held me. It was at this time that I truly understood that my whole family was gone. That the pain I had felt was their screams in the final seconds of their life! I was shattered. It was at that moment that I pledged myself to destroying the mares that had destroyed my life. I became a hard person with a heart of stone. All I wanted to do was kill, kill, kill. I was going to become the best killing machine the dream had ever seen.

I worked at getting my blade skill improved. Boy was I bad. I practiced as much as I could. But try as I might just didn't understand the fine points of mare collapsing and protecting myself. As I practiced, a fine young man came my way and asked if I would like some help because he would be willing to give me all I needed. His name was Subhash Indraha. He is tall, with dark hair. He had then and now a soft and wonderful smile that he shares with all. In short, he was every girl's knight in shining armor.

He took me in tow and taught me many things, some of which were the arts needed in the dream. The others were how to be a whole person again, with an awakened heart. From this point on I want to spend the rest of my life with my beloved Sub. He had melted one part of my heart, the very center of it. But it was still surrounded by a hard shell of misery that even Sub couldn't completely remove. Then one day I came across another dreamer, also with a halo. He asked me what I wanted out of my dream. Well of course I answered, Kill the mares.

He stumped me when he asked "but what then, after you have killed it?" I had never thought ahead of the simple act of getting rid of the mares. He sat me down and explained how his House the Order of the Sable Moon, also wanted to find a way to rid the dream of the mares forever by studying them. Once a solution was found the house would do it's best help the dream. As he left me to think about what he has shared with me I asked him his name. It was Sir Grunt. His ideas intrigued me, I asked more dreamers about their believes. They had merit too, but I kept coming back to the OoSM's ideas. Finally I searched out Sir Grunt again and asked to be taken into the house as an initiate.

I had my trials but in the end I was accepted. Once again I had a family. It was wonderful, the bitter hard shell part of my heart was now softened! I was a totally whole person and had much to live for. I continue to work on my skills and have hopes to raise in the house to levels of responsibility. It will be by the grace of our land what happens from here on out. Clear Dreams to the reader of my history P.S. I was able to find and put in a place of reverence the essence shells of my family. It is sad to see them, but I have come to the place in my life that I can now look at them and accept with calm what happened.
