The Three Lanterns

The first lantern is named Ulia. This lantern guides those that are living and working. She loves energy and burns off the strong work of others. Yet she never tires out when there is no work to be done. She encourages those that see it to work hard and take pride in their jobs.

Ulia herself is a copper and bronzed lantern, with a clear glass bulb. Inside is the flame that resembles a tall and stoic woman with bright red hair and eyes that look off into the distance, to the future. She glides effortlessly across the sky to reach all that work tirelessly to provide for their families and stays with them until midnight.

This one night Ulia was flying to a man who was working in the mines in a dark cave. She flew threw the small crevices gracefully and reached the man who upon seeing her was startled. He jolted his hard hat jumped on his head as he clenched the shovel in his hands tightly, but was easily calmed by the sight of seeing the lantern glow brightly and energetically. She spoke to him, "Do not be afraid! I am Ulia!" she said spryly. He replied, "Oh I thought you were someone else.." the lantern smiled and said in a upbeat tone, "No troubles! I see you are working. Need a light to guide you?" he replied, "Dear Ulia I dont think you know the work I do. I bury people." her light still ever bright she replied, "Oh like a gravedigger?" "Sort of..." he says hesitantly. Her light began to dim slightly as she got a sense of danger in the man's presence, "Oh..." she says slowly. She realized something in her light, and taking in the surroundings within the corner she spotted corpses aplenty. All within differing stages of decay. Ulia began to hover slowly backward and payed the fellow a goodbye, as she flew out of the cave quickly.

This man wasn't a gravedigger. She knew exactly who to call...

The Three Lanterns Part 2

Ulia called upon her sister, Una. The Lantern of Death.

Una is a full steel lantern with an intricately designed bulb. The bulb appears to have etched within the glass skull like designs that are elongated and stretched to the length of the glass. Within burns a dark blue flame, that resembles an elegant woman with long black hair. And a dark black look around and in her eyes, yet her eyes are not frightening.

Una lights the way for death. Her job comes with a heavy responsibility. She can either guide death to those that are deserving of such, those that are ailing and suffering, or those that have lived a long life. She lights the person, and soon after death is to be not far behind.

Ulia told Una of the 'gravedigger' she found in the caves. And Una simply nodded gracefully, and then floated away slowly toward the town. The opposite way of the caves, yet Una knew where she was going. Slowly she floated in the night time sky, the clouds reflecting her blue light making the sky appear as if it were a full moon out that night. She reached a small wooden house, where she rested on a barrel that was on the porch. She closed her eyes as her flame went silent and darkened to a black flame making it appear that there is no flame at all. Within a few moments a tall lumberjack man came out of the house in need of a light, he saw Una sitting on the barrel and grabbed her taking her inside the house. As he looked over the ancient lantern he began thinking to himself as to how he retrieved such a lantern. He looked over the details of the lantern and shook his head, knowing that the lantern was not one he owned. He called over his housemate, the man walked over. It was the man who was digging in the caves, though he was an average looking fellow with a slight childish grin across his face.

As the men conversed about the lantern asking each other about such, Una sprung alive. Her blue light burned brightly throughout the house, her eyes opened wide and foreboding. She simply looked at the two frightened looking men and said in a guttural deep voice, "May you two burn." She then floated out of the house slowly as her job was done.

Within moments of her light leaving the area, there was a knock on the door. The Guardsman from the town were there, they compiled of several law enforcers and townspeople.

They were armed, and had gotten a tip about serial killers within the area. They were ready to take them in, dead or alive.

What of the families though?

The Three Lanterns Part 3

The families from such a horrible situation calls upon the last lanterns aid. The Lantern of Comfort. Uuli

Una after finishing her job came upon her sister Uuli, just in time to come to the aid of the town. Una nodded to Uuli and smiled, Uuli the same in turn as she went into the town ready to warm and comfort the hearts of the ailing.

Uuli is a bronzed lantern with gold inlays of flowers. Roses, lillies and honeysuckle. The bulb is tinted the color of the sun, a bright yellow. And within holds a warm golden flame, that resembles a gorgeous woman with curly long blonde hair and a smile that warms the heart.

Uuli is a lantern that comforts people in their times of need, in their times of pain, and even in their times of joy. She brings her light to those that ask for warmth, those that don't even know they need warmth, and those that deserve warmth. Wrapping her light like warm arms around a person she holds them in her bosom and soothes their minds.

Once within the town, Uuli's burned her lantern's light as bright as the sun until the entire town was alight with golden rays. Uuli stayed levitating in the midnight sky until the next week, lighting the town every night. The families of the town that lost their loved ones to the horrific began to feel warmth and soothed, not healed of their loss. Nor did they stop grieving. Uuli's job is one that does not stop, she still returns to that town. Until this day.

All the lanterns, have a responsibility. And still do their works today.

You may have seen one soaring through the sky at night.
