Teachers Requirements and Progression

The following are to be adhered to by all Teachers, regardless of orbit, Train ability, rank in factions, etc.

  • A Teacher has the freedom, within reason, to grant any task that is of appropriate difficulty for the corresponding student and the Art sought.
  • A Teacher has the freedom to accept or deny the report of any student if they feel it is inadequate or insufficient.
  • A Teacher has the freedom to teach or not teach whomever they wish. A Teacher may refuse to hear a report from any student.
  • A Teacher is expected to actively use their halo. Periods of inactivity (either absence from the dream in general, or non-use of Train) may result in removal of Train, Train Self or Sphere.
  • A Teacher will have the discretion of determining how, why, and to whom they wish to or not wish to grant Support Train Tokens.
  • A Teacher requesting a Train plateau must have the same number of Major Arts to the level of the Train that is being requested. If, and only if, there are not enough Major arts to equal the level then all the Major arts and a number of Minor arts may be combined to give you the Train level total.
  • Master Teachers may now task and train in plateaus of Train for other teachers. You must now be in party for the Train to work properly.
  • A Teacher, if found to be violating or abusing the Teaching System, may have their teaching arts removed or suspended at the discretion of the Elder Council and Elder Teaching Lead. Incidents should be brought up by Dreamers and or Teachers/Master Teachers unless an Elder has a strong reason to believe that an investigation is required.
  • All teachers are able to quest, train and plateau any student, no matter the focus, in Blade and Flame arts.

MT Requirements and Obligations:

1. Those seeking Master status must have a Train of 60.

2. Those seeking Master status must have the art of Sphere.

3. Those seeking Master status must have at least 8 arts to 60 (Major, minor and DreamSoul arts)

4. Those seeking Master status must have at least 3 arts to 40 (Major, minor and DreamSoul arts)

5. Those seeking Master status must have supports from ALL current Masters. If support is refused, a codex stating refusal is needed. If all Masters do not support seeker, the decision will be made by a majority of the votes either in favor or denial.

  • If approved, the Teacher will be granted Train Self and the status of Master Teacher.
  • Master Teachers shall have discretion in determining how, why and to whom they wish to support for Master Teacher status.
  • The role of Master Teacher is to help lessen the burden of the Elder Master Teachers and to become a support for the other Teachers of the City. The Masters will be the best teachers of the City.
  • A Master Teacher is expected to actively use and wear their halo. Periods of inactivity (either absence from the dream in general, or non-use of Train) may result in removal of Train, Train Self or Sphere.
  • A Master Teacher, if found to be violating or abusing the Teaching System, may have their teaching arts removed or suspended at the discretion of the Elder Council and Elder Teaching Lead. Incidents should be brought up by Dreamers, Teachers/Master Teachers unless an Elder has a strong reason to believe that an investigation is required.
  • Quest will ONLY be trained to your apprentice. Any returning teachers who do not have that art, seek out an Elder. Do not train them in the art if they do not have it.
  • Master Teachers may gain support train tokens by obtaining and completing a mini-quest that is to be the equivalent of a 1st plateau (10 plat) quest.

Process for Support Train mini-tasks/questlets:

Evoke Quest, select Support Train and then select the Master. Include the art and plateau in the title. When it is time to grant the support, you activate Support Train and select the art. A token will be made for you.

Number of supports needed per Train Self plateau:

2 for 10,

3 for 20-30,

4 for 40-60,

5 for 70-90

Sphere Tasking:

  • A Teacher may seek the Art of Sphere from an Elder Master Teacher.
  • A Teacher must be at LEAST 3rd sphere and have issued 10+ tasks competed by students.
  • “Sphere Apprenticeship” quest(s) will be issued if the Teacher is approved and has met all the requirements. The process will consist of working with experienced sphere teachers to learn the ropes.
  • The Teacher is required to learn the eligibility and requirements for each Sphere level.
  • The Teacher will be asked to formulate their own sample sphere quests for review.
  • If the Elder Master Teacher feels the Sphere Apprentice is ready, they will be trained in the art of Sphere.

Sphere Requirements:

Sphere 1: Should demonstrate understanding of the more basic functions in the Dream. This may be done in an interview but a Sphere Quest stating what was discussed must also be written before the student is granted the Sphere.

Sphere 2: Demonstrate knowledge that would have been gained from interacting with others. This may be done in an interview but a Sphere Quest stating what was discussed must also be written before the student is granted the Sphere.

Sphere 3: Actively participate in a meaningful event or experiment (Meaningful meaning multiple dreamers towards a specific goal, not necessarily “Dream changing”)

Arts Requirements:

  • ALL SPHERES require that your Blade, Flame, and Focus art be to your sphere level. Additionally:
  • 1st Sphere: See/Complete Oracle System
  • 2nd Sphere: See/Complete Oracle System
  • 3rd Sphere: All Oracle Gifts Received
  • 4th Sphere: 3 Focal arts at 39.
  • 5th Sphere: 4 Focal arts at 49.
  • 6th Sphere: 5 Focal arts at 59.
  • 7th Sphere: 6 Focal arts at 69, 5 Dreamsoul arts at 69.
  • 8th Sphere: 7 Focal arts at 79, 6 Dreamsoul arts at 79.
  • 9th Sphere: Second Focus Path. 7 Dreamsoul arts at 89.

ARTS THAT WILL -NOT- COUNT TOWARDS DREAMSOUL ART REQUIREMENTS:

House rank arts (Ascend to Ruler, initiate, demote, etc), Power Token, Sphere, Quest, Soul Evoke, Support Sphere, Support Train, Train Self.

Train and House Arts (but only one house art) will count towards Dreamsoul Art Requirements.

When these requirements are met you may begin seeking Sphere Support tasks.

  • Support sphere tokens are required for all spheres after 3rd. To obtain one, a task will be sought from a supporting (any) teacher. The approximate scale of effort or difficulty for each Sphere Support task should be around a 50-60 art plat difficulty. This usually includes leading or organizing at least one meaningful effort/initiative/experiment/impact that includes others and has been given -forethought- to an idea including expectations, preparation, and planning of the idea BEFORE the effort has taken place.
  • Sphere Support tasks may still be a multi-step progressive path towards a large-scale goal, several multi-step smaller projects, or completely unrelated. If there are steps to a greater goal each step must be tasked individually prior to any attempts.
  • Students should not be in possession of or working on more than -2- active Sphere Support tasks at any given time.
  • All Sphere Support tasks should be created on a Quest codex and the art of SUPPORT SPHERE should be targeted.

Supports required for each sphere:

  • 4th Sphere 2 tokens
  • 5th Sphere 4 tokens
  • 6th Sphere 6 tokens
  • 7th Sphere 8 tokens
  • 8th Sphere 10 tokens
  • 9th Sphere 12 tokens (No tasks required for attaining supports)
  • All Sphere Support tasks can be reviewed by the Teaching Team and Teaching Lead to determine if it meets the criteria. If the Team feels that it doesn’t meet the criteria sufficiently, they may have the option to speak with the student and the Teacher/s about the sphere support task and work to alter or create one that is acceptable.
  • While progressing through your secondary focus, tasks are not required to obtain supports for spheres.
  • No double dipping with Sphere Support tasks. If its for your sphere, you may not gain another art/plat train for the same effort.

The Elders are looking at the art of Quest/Support Sphere/Train to make it so when you report your Support Sphere task it is recorded in the Book of Knowledge when a ribbon is made like how Support Train tasks work. Until then we will ask that students seeking spheres hang onto their tasks as well as the support ribbons until the sphere is completed and granted for teacher and/or Elder review.

Teachers may review the tasks to make sure there were tasks involved in gaining support and grant the sphere responsibly. This is not an opportunity for teachers to be overly critical of the tasks (but may ask questions), the teacher who granted the support ribbon already assessed that. If there are concerns, a teacher may refuse to grant the sphere and contact the Elder Masters.

I would like to suggest dedicating a room to Sphere Support tasks and ribbons. Ones that come to mind would be the Sphere Studies in the Library Sphere Halls. There are also Teaching Halls, Focal Guilds, House Vaults, and other various caches and vaults around the city to store these and other teaching related items for the time being.

TEACHING STANDPOINT:

  • A student approaches a sphering teacher to let them know they are going to be beginning their sphere journey. They will discuss with that teacher roughly what they plan on doing and may check in with the teacher periodically throughout the process for advice/suggestions/guidance. Since this teacher will be granting the sphere, they will not be able to provide a support for the student's sphere.
  • A student approaches teachers for Sphere Supports.
  • The teacher will verify the student meets all art requirements.
  • Teacher and student will discuss if this is part of an ongoing effort they have not attempted, if they have something in mind they haven't started on already, or have an idea of a standalone project they would like to attempt. The student may have no idea, and this is when the teacher would need to come up with something for the student to work on. Any task given should be around a 50/60 plat difficulty to be an appropriate Sphere Support task.
  • Teacher evokes Quest and targets their Support Sphere art. Write down what they came up with, gives to student.
  • Student returns, reports the task.
  • Teacher creates Support Sphere ribbon, and gives that and the quest to the student.
  • If a teacher is asked to train a sphere, and is presented with supports and tasks, they may ask questions about the tasks but are not expected to be overly critical. The teachers who provided the Sphere Support ribbons should have already done that. If a teacher has a concern, they may refuse to train the sphere and direct the student to a Master Teacher or Elder Master.

STUDENT STANDPOINT:

  • A student approaches a sphering teacher to let them know they are going to be beginning their sphere journey. They will discuss with that teacher roughly what they plan on doing and may check in with the teacher periodically throughout the process for advice/suggestions/guidance.
  • Student approaches teacher for a sphere Support.
  • Student verifies they meet all art requirements.
  • Student and teacher will discuss if this is part of an ongoing effort they have not attempted, if they have something in mind they haven't started on already, or have an idea of a standalone project they would like to attempt. The student may have no idea, and this is when the teacher would need to come up with something for the student to work on. Any task given should be around a 50/60 plat difficulty to be an appropriate Sphere Support task.
  • Student reads, accepts, and does the task.
  • Student returns, reports the task.
  • Teacher gives student Support Sphere ribbon, and returns the task. The student will then store these until the sphere is complete and granted.
  • When the student gets all supports they will return to the initial sphering teacher and present the tasks and supports. If the teacher refuses to grant the sphere, and the student feels they are worthy, they may seek a Master Teacher or Elder Master.

Apprenticeship:

  • Only Elder Master Teachers and Master Teachers may be a Primary Mentor to an apprentice. (See Dual Mentorship below)
  • An Master Teacher is only allowed one apprentice at a time.
  • The Apprentice and Mentor must spend at least 2 sessions going over general Teaching rules/guidelines (eligibility requirements, activity requirements, progression benchmarks, etc.)
  • After the initial meetings, and if they are still in agreement, the MT and the Apprentice will start their work together. During the next few weeks, the Apprentice is expected to shadow the MT. At first, the MT will “guide” the Apprentice through their style of teaching and how they create certain tasks or decide if a report is sufficient. The Apprentice should be encouraged to offer suggestions, ask questions, critique or offer non-official “alternative” tasks.
  • Once there is a level of mutual confidence, the Apprentice will be asked to come up with the actual task and, pending approval and re-written on a Quest codex by the MT, will give the task to the student to be completed.
  • Regular reports are to be made to the Elder Teaching Lead or Elder Council.
  • When the MT feels that the apprentice is ready, Master Teachers may now train their apprentices in the art of Quest.
  • The granting of Quest will allow the apprentice access to the Apprentice Study and the option to display their Apprentice Halo.
  • The two will work in tandem with the MT approving the tasks that the Apprentice writes. This continues until the MT and the Apprentice feel it is time to take the next step. At that point, the MT will decide if the Apprentice is ready to start writing tasks on their own.
  • The final stage will continue until the MT feels that the Apprentice is ready to be given the Oral portion of the Exam. At this point, the MT and the Apprentice will meet with the Elder Teaching Lead and discuss the journey and then the Apprentice will speak with the Elder Teaching Lead alone.
  • After the oral portion, if passed, the Final written exam will be given. (If more work is to be done, the Apprentice will be sent back to the MT and the three will discuss where help is needed)

FINAL WRITTEN EXAM:

  • The Apprentice needs to come up with their own “New Art”, any focus, sphere, effect etc. Once that is done, then pick 10 (or so) REAL dreamers and write an example task for them to learn the art, being prepared to defend why they did or did not write each task for each person a certain way. The task of the 10 people should say what they did. They are encouraged to interview people and also encouraged to pick other dreamers than their friends or housemates.
  • When the report is given and the samples are looked at, the Elder Team Lead will discuss with the Elder Teaching Team and get input. The final decision is in the hands of the Elder Teaching Leads.
  • The Apprentice should take as long as they need to learn all that there is to know about Teaching. The apprenticeship will last at least 4 to 6 weeks, and as long as they need.

Dual Mentorship of Apprentices:

  • Depending on circumstance or preference, a secondary mentor can be added for extra assistance.
  • The secondary mentor does not need to be a Master Teacher.
  • Same focus mentoring is very much desired whenever possible, but not required.
  • Daxon is to be informed of ALL mentoring activities.

Tasking and Plateauing:

  • A Student may have up to 3 active tasks from the same Teacher at a time. They may have multiple tasks from multiple teachers. Exceptions to this rule are tasks for Forge, Train or Sphere.
  • A Student may report a task as soon as they are ready. If the Student can report sooner than one dream cycle, then the task difficulty should be adjusted.
  • A Teacher may decide the difficulty of a “To Learn” task. It should challenge the Student but not be so difficult that it takes the Student weeks to perform.
  • Plateau tasks should increase in difficulty as the plateau increases. Ex. Free Action to 80 should be incredibly more difficult that a Free Action to 10.
  • A Teacher may not give a Plateau task for a Minor Art until the student has reached the next Sphere. (EX. A GateKeeper learns Identify at 30 and would not be able to plateau ID to 10 until Orbit 40. They would also not be able to plateau the art to 20 until Orbit 50)
  • A Teacher, if found to be violating or abusing the Teaching System, may have their teaching arts removed or suspended at the discretion of the Elder Council and Elder Teaching Lead.

Support Train and Support Sphere:

  • Any teachers missing these arts are to be directed to an Elder.

Bequeath

1. Any teacher, Guardian or Ruler missing the art can be can be given the art. When the task is written, write in the body of the quest that you are granting the art “per Chief Scholar Ethor Frilg”

2. Any other dreamer is allowed to task normally for the art. The only requirement is 3rd sphere.

Honoring Quests:

  • If a teacher has been absent for 2 weeks or more, an Elder or MT may honor their quest.
  • If there is any doubt, send the student to an Elder.
  • Only Elders may honor Elder tasks.

Note from Chief Scholar Ethor Frilg:

"If you wish to be able as Masters to honor a task from another teacher in the two week time frame, I will be accepting of that. However, should there be any shenanigans, I will remove the art from the student, no questions asked. If it is being honored by a specific Master, then the Master will be held responsible and removed from that station. I will also go as far as to say that the more duties you wish to take on as Masters, the more you will be watched. With greater duties, comes greater responsibilities and repercussions."
