Strange energy source revealed (Updated Monday, July 06, 1998 at 08:59:32 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Shaba sent me the following news:

Apparently some strange energy source has shown itself in Caudal Rift, The Horron' Lair. While gen sitting to recoup losses from the DM attacks Incubus and I were Join Partied so we could evoke arts and speak to each other at a distance. I turned to look at him and see if an item had generated when I saw a firestorm erupt around him ((just like the effect you see when someone is blasted or scared)). I heard him scream out in pain and immediately evoked restore on his avatar. When I asked him what happened he said he had been hit by some source of power. The power did not have any effect but did remove 5 Dream Soul from his avatar. New Lyran sighted... (Updated Saturday, June 27, 1998 at 05:57:52 (EDT)) Update by Grayling Yesterday, friday 6/27, Kajira, a DreamSeer Lyran escaped the clutches of Memnochen. During her captivity, she slipped messages into memnoch's pockets, hoping they would reach the Dream... This week, dreamers discovered the messages, and aided Kajira by collapsing Memnoch, thus weakening his grip on her... After a final struggle, she emerged from the Harrows and was welcomed into the dream.

We here at Narcophile News bid her welcome and wish her a good time in the dream. Erratum (Updated Thursday, June 25, 1998 at 14:39:11 (EDT)) Update by Grayling In a message we posted about The Amazons, on Sunday, May 24, 1998, we have made an error. Forcia, Guardian of Calenture, has been wrongfully mentioned as a member of this group... We would like to state to those reading this that she is not.

We sincerely apologize to her for this mistake....

A message from Tux (Updated Thursday, June 25, 1998 at 14:29:02 (EDT)) Update by Grayling Tux has contaced us and asked us to relay this message: To those of you that have wished Ambrosia and myself a continued clear path in the dream..thanks. To those of you that know of my Cloudsbreak problems and have sent pigeons to me ...a bigger thanks. To those of you that believe my Soul has become corrupt (Lyrans included)... seek me and we can have a debate bigger than Keminar of Faraway, and Trinxan the Illuminated had at the Totality Summit so many dreams ago. Massive Darkmare attack (Updated Thursday, June 25, 1998 at 09:17:01 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Thanks Shaba, gatekeeper of House Calenture, for the following news about a recent Dark Mare attack:

Last night the Dark Mares came out in force. I was quietly sitting a gen in Caudal Rift, practicing arts, reweaving my shields, minding my own business and collecting some items when I saw Kane enter the room. I was in the platform room (unsure of its name) and said hello, we began to exchange bows when Kneash (Horron DM of sphere 9) entered the room and was tossing Kane around like a sphered dreamer does to an emphant. I quickly RF'd and FA'd up and evoked scare on him to try and help Kane. All I did was annoy the DM who somehow blasted me and caused me to fall into the pit. Kneash was joined by Memnoch, a sphere 1 DM. We were in big trouble out there, many dreamers collapsed left and right. I thought all was hopeless until Balthiir appeared. He was able to help us collapse the DM's and bring sanity back to the chaos.

Thinking all was well, I headed back to my gen spot and began to recover my losses. I healed up and waited for items to appear, then out of nowhere Kruugaar (aka Freddie) shows up and wants to play "collapse the dreamer." I had had enough of this for one night and just wanted peace and quiet. Areana was there with myself and Mr. Spock. We worked together and I capitalized on Mr. Spocks attack on Kruugaar to chamele and come up on the DM's six o'clock. Spock left the room to heal and I opened up on him with a nice lvl 25 chak. 6 bursts from my trusty chak brought the mare to a soulsphere. More mares appeared that night too.

A mare named Xatoc was also running around and spreading chaos to all, and T'kkar paid visits to HC and other houses. It was a busy night defending the houses and the dream city.

Sounds exciting! Tux leaving Calenture... (Updated Sunday, June 21, 1998 at 11:02:49 (EDT)) Update by Grayling Ruler Tux of Calenture has announced that he has decided to leave the house..

He states that it is not because of differences with the other rulers, but because the prophecies of the ancient DreamWright masters had decreed it... We here at Narcophile news would like him good luck with his new occupation and hope he can spend more time with us to rebuild the dream...

New build, getting close... (Updated Sunday, June 21, 1998 at 10:56:43 (EDT)) Update by Grayling Brent Phillips, one of the Software Engineers for Underlight, entered the dream this week, and finally announced to some of us what we all wanted to hear! The new build is on its way! Brent told us that it will be a matter of days now.

So I'd say get ready for the neat new stuff and welcome the the bugfixes...

Soulthief's descent into evil (Updated Sunday, June 07, 1998 at 13:40:59 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Thanks to WonderFilled for this news: Soulthief, FreeSpirit Teacher of the 5th Sphere, and mentor to many - has been taken over by an Ancient Evil, a Father of the Entropy Coalition named TyKoth.

In response to this threat to the Dream, the City Guard has been called into emergency session.

There are two postings in the Lyran Scrolls which should be reviewed for more detailed information -

Yog-ka vs. Underlight trial results (Updated Monday, May 25, 1998 at 20:56:24 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad For over 8 hours on Sunday, May 24th, the Hon. Judge Soultheif presided over the trial of the Lyran Yog-ka for the murder of the Lyran Sabra. After the jury deliberated, Yog-ka was found guilty of capital murder, sentenced to permanent death, an d immediately fled the Dream in violation of his oath to submit to the jury's decision. A fairly complete transcript of the proceedings (as logged by MOLL) is posted at http://lyraweb.mpath.co m/forum/roleplaying/3983.html, with Yog-ka's reaction at http://lyraweb.mpath.com/forum/roleplaying/3987.html. Many thanks to Dr Carl G Jung fo r this important news.

Correction (Updated Monday, May 25, 1998 at 12:23:26 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Elektra emailed me to clear up some misconceptions I had about Domination's leaving the OSM. She writes that the battle that took place in the House was only from Domination's end, and that he is not proud of w hat happened. Also, she does not support the battle itself, only what lead up to it. And as to the rumour that she, Domination, and Raven Lunatic are trying to found the Gathering of the Entranced, she says she "can't say we don't want it" but they "aren' t pushing it." Thanks for clearing things up!

The Amazons (Updated Sunday, May 24, 1998 at 14:51:21 (EDT)) Update by Grayling There is a new organization forming called the 'Amazons'. This organization will be for women who are concerned with the growing problem of unnecessary and unwanted sexual advances from men. The charter members are Nemesis, Forcia, and KeeperoftheGat e.

Their purpose is to confront men in a nonviolent way and try to convince them to stop harassing women in the dream. They are prepared to take further measures to punish repeat offenders if they must, but they hope it will not come to that.

There will be a meeting, time and date to be announced, open to ALL women of ALL houses and freespirits to address the problem and discuss membership. Nemisis asks that ALL women attend, even if you are not interested in joining.

They hope that their group will be one of respect and will have a positive effect on the dream, making it a more comfortable place for women.

Three leave the OSM (Updated Sunday, May 24, 1998 at 11:17:12 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Shinmizu, initiate of the OSM, just sent word that after a dispute involving Domination, Krynn, Kia Ravenheart and others, as well as a bloody battle, Domination and two of his friends/supporters, Elektra and Raven L unatic have left the Order, and hope to be the founding members of the Gathering of the Entranced. Hope things sort themselves out soon...

House Calenture raided (Updated Friday, May 22, 1998 at 16:36:25 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad This just in from an anonymous source: A dreamer named "mikemorr" entered house Calenture today (5/22 around 12:15 EDT) and tried to raid their essence storage area. The house chased him out and into Evernight where he was collapsed, then he was found again in Cenotaph of Dread and was caught stealing essence from another HC member. This time he was chased for 10 minutes and was hiding in the sanctuary in CoD until he left and was collapsed again. According to witnesses he is not allowed on Evernight plateau again or he will be collapsed on sight. It seems House Calenture is not going to put up with this behavior from him or any dreamer.

Thanks. Let this be a warning to anyone attempting to take offensive action against any of the houses! darkmare surprise... (Updated Thursday, May 21, 1998 at 09:12:50 (EDT)) Update by Grayling Yesterday, wednesday 20/5, there was a surprise attack from the Dark Mares... A new Dark Mare, T'kkar was accompanied by Sagnath and Foulmoth. This trio first attacked the Dreamers of Light, and then proceeded to other houses. Many houses were unprepared for this and suffered great losses. The recently appeared Dark Mare, Kruugaar, appararently attacked the Cenotaph of Dread... Let us hope this does not keep up...

Clash of Minds postponed!! (Updated Friday, May 15, 1998 at 16:47:27 (EDT)) Update by Grayling The Clash of Minds, organized by WonderFilled, has been postponed. Due to several causes, including the Winnowing, there was no way for him to arrange this Tournament in time. Some of the dreamers he wished to speak with before the tournament are either unable to dream, or have stopped dreaming altogether. Also, some of the contestants would not be able to join in the Clash, because of the delay in the Dreaming Tax. The Clash of Minds will be rescheduled to a date within the next three weeks, to, as WonderFilled has mentioned, "allow the Dream to stabilize and to allow adequate time for publicity". If you still wish to take part in the Clash, be sure to post on the Lyra Roleplaying Forum to inform Wonderfilled of this.

Announcement from Lyra (Updated Thursday, May 14, 1998 at 07:15:13 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad This just in from the Underlight mailing list: Soon after the notorious Threshold Pits were opened, dark rumors began to circulate--rumors of caves further below the once-forbidden pits. It is said that an ancient vault lies at the center of the caves, stocked with powerful objects from before the Gre at Loss. The vault is guarded by fearsome nightmares and is hidden by a series of diabolically-twisting passages. With the passing of the Chaos Eclipse, the forces barring the entrance to the caves have weakened. It is now only a matter of time before th e entrance to the caves lies exposed, and the arcane treasures within are revealed to those brave and clever enough to uncover them.

Prepare to explore The Threshold Caves--the dark, fabled home of the Great Loss's guarded, ancient vault--coming soon to Underlight on mplayer.com! You can visit MPlayer's Underlight page at http://www.mplayer.com/news/980513/underlight.html for more information about the Threshold Caves, as well as screenshots, game info, and hints on upcoming bug fixes. Tax levied on Dreamers (Updated Wednesday, May 13, 1998 at 17:31:22 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Today is the first day that Lyra will be levying a tax on the Dreaming community. The US$14.95/month is now in effect. Be warned.

Blades of the Elements (Updated Wednesday, May 13, 1998 at 04:13:01 (EDT)) Update by Grayling Today's the big day... Together with the Great Winnowing, something big is happening in Underlight...

A reliable source of information disclosed the following information: Starting in the wee hours of dawn on Wednesday, May 13, the hunt will begin for four powerful talismans--the Blades of the Elements. Each of these mighty weapons is attuned to a separate element, harnessing and focusing its power to great potential. Each one is hidden in a different locale within the City. Each one a secret. With the passing of the Eclipse the secrets of these shadowy places will be revealed. As new knowledge enters the Dream, citizens will stri ve to discover the location of the talismans by piecing together riddles and clues.

Good luck to anyone who takes part... Get one of those blades... Cloudsbreaking News opens (Updated Monday, May 11, 1998 at 21:18:25 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Cloudsbreaking News, a spin-off of Killer ~SoC~'s old Cloudsbreak News site, has opened for the public, with a spiffy new look and a script system similar to Narcophile. Good luck to all involved!

Soulmaster society (Updated Monday, May 11, 1998 at 16:35:34 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Thanks Grayling for news about the newly-formed Soulmaster society: On saturday 5/9, Isun, freespirit SoulMaster, has started a SoulMaster society, together with other soulmasters (housed and freespirit). This society will be responsible for sharing and maintaining knowledge among the members of our focus and future dream ers. It will promote and foster common interests shared by all soulmasters. It will ensure honorable and integer behaviour of soulmasters, and will busy itself with the common concerns shared by all soulmasters. The society itself is houseless, and asks i ts members to leave house politics out of the meetings. We're hoping that this society will be successful... The final group charter can be found here, and the minutes of the first meeting, and the member listing is here. Yog-ka agrees to stand trial for the murder of Sabra (Updated Monday, May 11, 1998 at 11:46:50 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad In a long, detailed posting, Dr. Carl G Jung of the Dreamers of Light has stated that the Lyran Yog-ka has agreed to a trial dealing with his murder of the Lyran Sabra. Here is what was posted: Saturday evening, Yog-Ka appeared in his old classroom to face questioning over his role in the death of our beloved Dreamseer Teacher of Teachers, Lady Sabra.

Yog-Ka freely admitted that: (1) Yog-Ka killed Sabra -- she is dead, not merely collapsed, not hiding inside a Dark Mare, not waiting somewhere to return to the Dream. Rather, she is DEAD at Yog-Ka's hands. (2) Yog-Ka did this selfishly to achieve his own 7th Sphere, which he claimed was needed to survive the Chaos Eclipse. (3) Yog-Ka induced Sabra to participate in the ritual through trickery and deceit. As he himself put it, "these facts speak for themselves."

Yog-Ka offers essentially 2 defensive issues, one in mitigation and one in justification: (1) He denies premeditation, claiming that he only realized the "justification" for his act at the last moment, during the ceremony. (2) Yog-Ka claims that killing S abra was justified to save himself, although he's offerred no proof yet beyond his own word that (i) either he or Sabra would have died during the Chaos Eclipse if unable to reach 7th Sphere, or (ii) that Sabra's killing was necessary to his attaining 7th Sphere, or (iii) that there was no other, nonviolent way to attain the same goal, for himself or Sabra.

He further denies that his actions constitute a violation of any of the Three Laws of Underlight, but appears to concede that they may nonetheless have been a "crime" as measured against standards of honor, honesty, decency, and humanity.

Yog-Ka has agreed to stand trial on these issues, on the conditions that: (1) The trial may be held in no sooner than 2 weeks, to give him time to prepare, and that it be held in a neutral sanctuary. (2) The jury that decides his guilty or innocense, and the punishment if any, must be composed of non-Lyran Dreamers. (3) I must agree to serve as Lead Prosecutor.

The third stipulation I immediately accepted. Others there consented to the first two conditions as well. By acclaimation, and with Yog-Ka's consent, Soulthief will serve as Judge.

Because I thought it pointless, given Yog-Ka's own powers (including Teleport), I did not seek to have him held over for trial. Rather, he is free on bail on his own recognizance. I rely on his selfish desire to be acquitted to assure his attendance at tr ial, and his cooperation in negotiating procedural details beforehand.

An edited log of the proceedings of this "preliminary hearing" are posted below, with whispers and extraneous comments removed. Soulthief or I will publish more details of the upcoming trial as they become available.

The adversary system of justice requires, in order to function properly, that both the accuser and the accused be represented as vigorously as possible, with the strongest possible statement of their evidence and arguments presented to the jury. This I in tend to do on behalf of the Dreamers of Underlight, as Special Prosecutor for the murder of Lady Sabra. No doubt Yog-Ka, sly trickster that he is, will himself or with Dreamer assistance present his own defense in as strong terms as are possible as well.< br> But justice here, in my view, demands full retribution for his acts: In the name of the Dreamers of Underlight, I seek nothing short of the Death Penalty. The log of the preliminary hearing can be found in four parts: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4. May justice be served... thanks Grayling Alliance of the Eclipse opens (Updated Sunday, May 10, 1998 at 20:53:54 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad A new House, the Alliance of the Eclipse, has opened its doors, and it looks as if its the House which the Seekers of Enlightenment will call their own. It's neither FreeSoul nor Illuminate, and "believes that dreamers are children of order and mares a re children of chaos, each is part of the same cycle, both are equally deserving of respect. We will neither hunt nor persecute them and will not tolerate it on our lands. We are a peaceful house of knowledge and seek to avoid and stop conflict. We will f ight only in extreme situations... such as in defense of a child or a soul that would be destroyed, and then only as a last resort. It is a house of peace, knowledge and enlightenment. We go by three tenets...Honor, Truth and Understanding."

Real life... (Updated Thursday, May 07, 1998 at 12:30:30 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad I'm sure a lot of us are feeling the effects of real life right now, as finals quickly approach. I'm going to have to cut back on the time I spend finding UL news, but any that is emailed to me will still be p osted. And since I recieve very few UL-news related emails, the site will basically be shut down for a week or two unless you all start sending things in. After finals are over and I'm settled into my summer routine (full-time web design job), things shou ld get up to speed.

Also, if anyone is interested in helping run this news page and is willing to spend some time each day finding news, please please please talk to me about it! As life progresses, I find I have less and less time to devote to this site, so any help is appreciated. I don't want to shut Narcophile down! Thank you!

Sabra's betrayal by Yog-ka (Updated Tuesday, May 05, 1998 at 21:40:15 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Thanks to Grayling for the following news: During the Chaos Eclipse, Kalgrek essences have been brought to Yog-Ka and Sabra, so they could perform a ritual which would ensure their survival. During this Ritual, even thought the Kalgrek essences would have been enough, Yog-Ka drained Sabra's powers for his own selfish reasons. Sabra has left a book to the dreamers, but this book has mysteriously disappeared (most likely beeen stolen)... He reports that the above event happened on the night of Saturday, May 2nd, and that apparently word has gotten around enough so that many Dreamers feel they should attempt to collapse Yog-ka upon encountering him, while others are simply trying to isolat e him through evasion. Indeed, trust in some of the Dreamwrights is completely gone... History scrolls (Updated Monday, May 04, 1998 at 09:53:43 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Darion Valhai Ashara has posted the first three scrolls dealing with the history of Underlight at http://alum.wpi.edu/~adwatts/Underlight. Illapse Keep Ambuscade, just the House of the Dreamers of Light atop Mt. Illapse. All interested should go read the full post and respond with a confirmation of his/her attendance. I urge all Teachers and Teacher-Candidates to attend, as this sounds like a great way to improve the nature of quests and Teaching overall.

Narcophile turns 2500 (Updated Thursday, April 23, 1998 at 09:05:30 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad That's right - sometime yesterday the page broke 2500 hits, enough of a milestone for me to be happy about. Mind you: this is hits, not visits, which, while related, are different: each time a person downloads a file from the server (i.e. index. html, osm_small.gif) the access log registers a hit. Thanks for making the site so popular! Keep the news coming in, keep checking here daily, and spread the word! Maybe now I'll go register the site with the major search engines... :)

Tournament of Spheres! (Updated Thursday, April 23, 1998 at 08:42:54 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Another Tournament of Spheres is to be held on May 10th among the OSM members, with prizes of XP to be given out to the top three competitors. Good luck to everyone involved!

The.Nomad turns 18 (Updated Sunday, April 19, 1998 at 08:41:14 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Yeah, I know, this isn't UL-related, but hey, it's exciting. Now that I'm 18, I can... uh, buy cigarettes, vote, get drafted... oh yeah, and go clubbing! Whoo! Anyway, yeah.

Clarification (Updated Friday, April 17, 1998 at 16:09:10 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Shinmizu--EBF clarifies for me that after he departed from the city council meeting, the rest of the Houses did as well, leaving only the FreeSpirits to pick up the remains. Thanks!

Top 20 Dreamtimes (Updated Friday, April 17, 1998 at 06:21:28 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad John@Lyra sent all the news pages this info... so I thought I might as well put it up here: a chart listing the 20 Dreamers who have spent the longest in UL. Download it here (top20.rtf , 8kb) in Microsoft Word-read able format.

First city council meeting held (Updated Friday, April 17, 1998 at 06:12:11 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Many thanks to Shinmizu--EBF for the following news: At 7:00 PM DST, at the Earthen Sanctuary, a meeting of the four houses and several freesprits took place. A charter for the possible structure of the council was read and as soon as that happened, the Dreamers of Light withdrew from the meeting upon word of Wraith. The next house to be asked their opinions was the Order of the Sable Moon, represented by Amygdala. She chose not to work with the forming council simply because of DoL's refusal to join. On the other hand, House Calenture and the Protector s of Radiance did not refuse the council. (Truth be told, it sounds like banishment vs. non-banishment.) Things were quite chaotic at the time of DoL and OoSM's refusal. Later, however, after the house representatives had left, things were peaceful, and m eaningful discussions went underway. The major points of contention were the proposed "city guard" and the possibility of the council forcing changes in beliefs. The one area that nearly everyone agreed on was the fact that many incompetent teachers were being made, thus allowing inexperienced ((non-roleplaying/Pkiller-type)) dreamers to easily gain spheres and abilties. Lyra's call for screenshots (Updated Wednesday, April 15, 1998 at 19:37:47 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Lyra updated their news page today with the following news: We are currently accepting your favorite screen shots from the Dream. We will select the coolest ones and add them to the web page for all to see. The ideal screen shots will have some really good roleplaying going on. The dreamers who submit the best 5 s creenshots will get something special... Send your full screen, unmodified TGA, or 24-bit BMP screen shots to support@underlight.com Send those screenshots in! Bards of Light to recreate battle of Rock Falls (Updated Wednesday, April 15, 1998 at 15:39:54 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad In a post on Lyra's Calendar of Destiny, Gyrethyn says that the Bard of Light will recreate the battle of Rock Falls in the Amphithea ter of Spheres on Friday, April 17th at 7 p.m. PST (10 p.m. EST). Be there!

City council reformed (Updated Wednesday, April 15, 1998 at 15:37:33 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad A post on the Calendar of Destiny tells of the return of Balthiir, Dreamsmith and Lyran, who wishes to reform the city council. The council, details of which can be read here, will be meeting at 7 p.m. PST (10 p.m. EST) on Thursday, April 16th in the Earthen Sactuary.

Seekers of Enlightenment meeting tonight (Updated Wednesday, April 15, 1998 at 15:33:11 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad The Seekers of Enlightenment are holding a meeting tonight at 5 p.m. PST (8 p.m. EST) at the Fantasy Falls in the Lower Basin of Stars. Topics to be discussed include sending representatives to the city council, the beliefs of the SoE, the SoE oath, an d Nziri's upcoming debate with the Protectors of the Radiance. All interested are welcome to attend the meeting.

Lyra news page updated (Updated Tuesday, April 14, 1998 at 19:14:48 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Lyra made an update to their News page. They tell that Underlight is featured on GameSpot as one of Ten Great Online Multiplayer Games, and that Pseudo.com conducted a Realaudio/Realvideo interview with some Lyrans, and more! Drop by and read the news.

The Dream Players Actors' Guild opens (Updated Sunday, April 12, 1998 at 17:01:26 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad From the Lyra Underlight Roleplaying Forum comes this message, posted by DemonicAngel:

The Dream Players would like to announce their opening of a new Actors Guild. Plays will be performed by Dreamers of all Houses, and all ranks..This will be a good opportunity to show your skills as a Dreamer! Plays will be focused on the Histories of Und erlight. Best of luck to all the Dream-Actors! Happy Day! (Updated Sunday, April 12, 1998 at 10:43:59 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Happy Easter to those who celebrate it, and happy belated Passover to those who celebrate that and happy Sunday to the agnostics and atheists out there :)

Pro-Mare Faction becomes Seekers of Enlightenment (Updated Saturday, April 11, 1998 at 20:05:53 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Ambi, leader of the Pro-Mare Faction, has announced that the group has voted on and decided an "official" name for their group - the Seekers of Enlightenment.

OSM holds festival (Updated Saturday, April 11, 1998 at 20:02:24 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad The Order of the Sable Moon held an in-house festival today, open only to current House members, although outsiders were welcome to watch. Thanks Invictus of Crossro ads of Cloudsbreak.

My stance on the Pro-Mare Faction (Updated Wednesday, April 08, 1998 at 20:46:57 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad I just researched and wrote down my opinion in a piece entitled To the Pro-Mare Faction: A question of beliefs. I think a piece like this clearly shows what is wrong with the stance of the PMF, and proves why they are wrong in what they are doing, but they are of the type that do not listen to reason and instead prefer to bask in the attention they are getting.

Natas Elder to host V.I.P. Ascension party (Updated Tuesday, April 07, 1998 at 21:09:51 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Natas Elder, a Dreamer who, at one time or another, has served three of the four Houses, has finally reached first Sphere, and to celebrate his Ascension, he is hosting a party. Full details are listed on the Calendar of Destiny, although I will reprint the guest list here to ensure that it gets out: Amygdala Alchemist Brain Calidar Cupid CyberKid Dane Dena Dragonmist Dvorak flash333 Ghazgkull grog habassa5 Ishido keletar Kia Ravenheart killer~soc krynn kudzoo Kult Zar Leviticus Lotous Maligant MDKILL phlendor Raven Lunatic Roland Snowblind soulthief swing-cat Valourin Veles Watcher Wraith Xanthicus Yog-Ka The party will take place in the Southern Sanctuary in Trinity Fields on April 8th at 7:00 p.m. PST.

Pro-Mare Faction claims Fayd's Fortress (Updated Tuesday, April 07, 1998 at 19:50:24 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad The Pro-Mare Faction, in a message posted by their leader Ambi on the Underlight Roleplaying Forum, has declared Fayd's For tress (located in the Middle Basin of Stars) to be their new home. They ask that none but their members enter there without permission, and ask that Dreamers respect the Fortress as if it were a House. The message has sparked a lot of discussion on the fo rums... if you have an opinion, feel free to post it!

Killer's contest (Updated Monday, April 06, 1998 at 19:07:04 (EDT)) Update by The.Nomad Once again, Killer ~SoC~, webmaster of that ever-so-popular news site, Cloudsbreak News, has provided some neat news. He's holding a contest! There's an image of a smiley face hidden somewhere on his site, and the first three people to find it and mail its exact URL to him will receive something - probably only recognition, but maybe something tangible. So go search! :)

Killer ~SoC~ adds Dark 'Mare section (Updated Sunday, April 05, 1998 at 17:38:11 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad Killer ~SoC~, webmaster of the popular Cloudsbreak News, has begun work on a new section of his page that will cover all the known Dark 'Mares, including thei r names, abilities, weaknesses, and any other information known about them. That could prove to be a very useful resource to the Dreamers.

Ambi and Flagg married (Updated Friday, April 03, 1998 at 18:18:22 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad Ambi (a FreeSpirit and member of the Pro-Mare Faction) and Flagg (an initiate of the Order of the Sable Moon) were married in a beautiful ceremony in a sactuary on Trinity Rise yesterday. Congratulations!

Protectors do declare war! (Updated Thursday, April 02, 1998 at 16:17:56 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad Adding further incredibility to my reports, the Protectors of the Radiance declared war on the Dreamers of Light recently, attacking their leaders. This inspired the Dreamersto fight back, causing many losses on both sides.

Clarification (no Protectors war) (Updated Wednesday, April 01, 1998 at 20:55:40 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad Tybarian, Ruler of the Protectors of the Radiance, emailed me to let me know that the news I received earlier about the Protectors declaring war was false. He says,

The claim that Protectors of Radiance has declared war is baseless and false. We have said openly that we will oppose those who oppose our efforts. We have warned the Houses of Imprisoners of our position. But we have not openly declared war and those who say we have are irresponsible in their reporting. Thanks for setting me straight, Tybarian. Land claims abolished (Updated Tuesday, March 31, 1998 at 13:16:07 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad Killer ~SoC~ informs me that the land claims made by both the House of Calenture and the Dreamers of Light have been abolished, allowing all members of any House as well as FreeSpirits to walk anywhere they please within the public area of the Dream City. Good to see people getting along :)

Protectors declare war (Updated Saturday, March 28, 1998 at 22:22:19 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad The Protectors of the Radiance is an illuminated House that supports and actively participates in banishment of Nightmares, and, in a hugely unpredictable move, they have declared war on the two existing Houses that do not support banishment - that is, the Dreamers of Light and the Order of the Sable Moon. With the Protectors as small as the are currently, it's doubtful that this war will have any huge effects, but who can tell? Thanks Shinmizu--EBF.

Pro-Nightmare news (Updated Saturday, March 28, 1998 at 14:19:41 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad Cronides sends word that Boggen's Pro-Nightmare philosophy is taking hold in the Dream, with many new students joining him every day. Of course, he has been taking abuse (both physical and verbal) from House memb ers and even FreeSpirits, but he is still pursuing his beliefs with a vigour. In one of his classes, he showed his students how it feels to be a Nightmare, locking them into a room by warding all the portals and then attacking them like Dreamers hunt 'mar es. To help prove that what he is doing is not wrong, it is reported that Boggen even calmed a 'mare in front of many students and even some skeptical House members. More will undoubtedly come of this in the future - perhaps Boggen could even learn to cal m the Dark 'Mares... who knows?

Pact lifted (Updated Friday, March 27, 1998 at 22:06:53 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad The non-initiation pact between the Houses has been lifted as of today, and each House is now dealing with the numerous Dreamers who wish to enter. From now on, any Dreamer who wishes to enter a House must have been in the Dream at least three days bef ore he or she will even be considered.

Protectors of Radiance opens! (Updated Friday, March 27, 1998 at 22:04:24 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad A new House has opened! The Protectors of the Radiance, long rumored to be next to arise from its ruins, has opened its doors. Tyberian is one of its Rulers; if there are others, I was not able to learn their names.

I have been terribly busy lately, so I haven't been able to Dream nearly as much as I'd like to, and so the quality and amount of my news has been suffering. That's why I need you to help me out! Any news you can sen d me is appreciated, but what I'd appreciate more is some dedicated, intelligent reporters who are able to spend time in the Dream attempting to acquire news for the page and who can write intelligent, well-written, concise reports of what news they f ind. If you'd like to do that, get in touch with me as soon as possible! Thanks!

Dragon vs. the Dreamworld (Updated Thursday, March 26, 1998 at 13:07:48 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad Last night, Dragon confronted Wraith in a hallway in Threshold, asking forgiveness for his past actions vs. the Dreamers of Light and others. Wraith refused to give Dragon this forgiveness, instead denouncing him in front of all present, and forbidding him from ever setting foot on Mt. Illapse under penalty of death. Looks like the situation will not be resolved anytime in the near future... thanks Cronides.

Pro-Nightmare faction formed? (Updated Wednesday, March 25, 1998 at 21:59:08 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad Boggen, a Dreamer with a longtime history of disruption, has begun a one-man faction towards protecting the Nightmares. He made a stand last night, refusing to let anyone go near a certain Nightmare in the Barrows, and attacking those who attacked it. This is quite a bold move, but I like the idea behind it and I hope Boggen succeeds in forming his pro-Nightmare group. It'll add one more dimension to an already multi-faceted game! Thanks Killer ~SoC~.

Greeting Corps formed (Updated Wednesday, March 25, 1998 at 17:35:14 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad The Order of the Sable Moon has formed a Greeting Corps, a group of House members that will work to make sure that all information about Houses, talismans, Nightmares, beliefs, areas, Teachers, etc. that is given out to the newly Awakened is accurate. The group was formed in anticipation of the lifting of the pact between the Houses, which will occur on Friday the 27th. This seems to be a very good idea, and perhaps other Houses will follow suit so none of the newly Awakened are given the wrong informa tion.

Seekers divide and... gather knowledge (Updated Wednesday, March 25, 1998 at 07:14:28 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad The Seekers, a group within the Order of the Sable Moon, met last night to discuss their plans. A group dedicated to peaceably gathering as much knowledge as possible about the Dream into one place, they split up the many tasks ahead of them so no aspe ct would be missed. Expect to learn a lot from them in the future! And if you're part of the Order and the pursuit of knowledge sounds like a good thing to do, just talk to Amygdala or Luinitari to find out more about the Seekers.

Log-excerpt of the day (Updated Sunday, March 22, 1998 at 13:06:43 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad With the flood of newly awakened, there are bound to be those who don't know much about the Dream, but...

(Names have been changed to protect the ... strange.) Blubbub: what is that stuff on the ground The.Nomad: When Dreamers die, they drop an essence and something from their inventory. Blubbub: how do i pick it up The.Nomad: (( Click and drag it into your inventory. )) Blubbub: what is drag? The.Nomad: (( Click, hold down the button, move the mouse over your inventory, let go. )) Blubbub: oh

Makes me wonder how he even managed to get UL started without knowing that.

Agoknights truly Nightmarish! (Updated Sunday, March 22, 1998 at 12:59:35 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad The Agoknights within the Dream has become truly nightmarish, as their powers have increased tenfold. They now can deafen with a roar, and cast some sort of instantaneous Blast which does quite a lot of damage. They can also become invisible at will fo r long periods of time. This raises some dilemmas - there are now no intermediate-difficulty Nightmares between Bogroms and Shamblixes (yes, it seems that Agoknights are more difficult to kill than Shamblixes now) and therefore gaining orbits for first, s econd, and even third sphere Dreamers has become much more difficult, or at least time-consuming. Some Dreamers have spoken with the Lyrans about this problem, and hopefully the Agoknights will be toned down soon.

Pact update (Updated Sunday, March 22, 1998 at 12:55:17 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad It seems I received incorrect information about the pact between the Houses. The three currently open Houses have agreed that there will be no initiations until this Friday, March 27th, and after that time, Dreamers will only be considered for initiati on if they have been Dreaming for three days or more.

Narcophile needs volunteer reporters! (Updated Friday, March 20, 1998 at 21:46:37 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad My contacts in the Dream don't seem to be very active, so I'm going to post my call for volunteers here. To make sure this page is complete and comprehensive, I need two reporters from each House to assist in news updates. If you woudl like to help out with this, please mail The.Nomad a short bio of yourself, telling your Dream-name, what House you're in, and most importantly, giving a sample of your writing skill (a short news-report paragraph will do). I nee d two reporters from each House, as well as two FreeSpirit reporters. Please get those e-mails sent!

Non-initiating pact signed (Updated Friday, March 20, 1998 at 21:46:17 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad While the Dream is in Chaos because of the Great Awakening, the three open Houses have agreed to postpone all initiations until at least two weeks from now. After that time, newly Awakened will begin being initiated once more.

Underlight goes public (Updated Friday, March 20, 1998 at 07:53:04 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad In an e-mail to the Underlight mailing list, Lyra announced that beginning one month after yesterday, Underlight users will be charged $14.95/month for unlimited Underlight use. With a fee 150% that of Ultima Online's, who can tell whether this will af fect Underlight's customer base? Expect an editorial on this one soon.

The Great Awakening (Updated Friday, March 20, 1998 at 07:50:54 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad It began last night, a huge influx of newly awakened Dreamers who all don't know much about the Dream and all need whatever help you're willing to give them. So go out and get 'em, Dreamers!

Lyra website moves, forums return (Updated Thursday, March 19, 1998 at 18:58:14 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad Lyra has relocated its Underlight website to MPlayer's server - the new location is http://lyraweb.mplayer.com/home.html. The forums on the site are back up, but it seems that none of the previously po sted articles are available. Hmm...

From the clutches of Death... (Updated Thursday, March 19, 1998 at 00:34:14 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad In an amazing turn of events, Snowblind, believed deceased, returned from the Chaos where he was violently thrown last night and found his way back to the Order of the Sable Moon, returning to the joyous cries of his brothers and sisters. Later the sam e evening, he and his love Amygdala were married, and there was much celebration and revelation by all. Truly a wonderful evening!

Snowblind passes away (Updated Wednesday, March 18, 1998 at 00:53:33 (EST)) Update by The.Nomad Snowblind, longtime Dreamer and new Ruler of the Order of the Sable Moon, passed away earlier this evening. He and Amygdala, then Guardian of the OSM, were working with Dark 'Mare essences recently, and were poisoned by a cursed one. They grew weaker a nd weaker until Amygdala fell into a coma. At that point, Snowblind gave his last ounce of lifeforce to revive Amygdala. Currently, Amygdala is in good health. The entire House is mourning the loss.
