New Ordainment Oath (Circa 1998)

They took painstaking measures to insure that only the most worthy, the most discipline, the most honorable amongst them ascended in power and received knowledge of the Arts.

After all, should power be obtained at will by those who seek it, the very existence of the City would be jeopardized..

Thus the requisite of the tasks for Arts and the more lengthy tasks for Ascensions.

Every Teacher swears a solemn oath, a pledge that they will do all in their power to assure that advancement and knowledge are only given to those who are truly deserving of it.

Furthermore, every Teacher swears to require a task, a task that will benefit the dreamer and if possible the City.

The task is given so that worth may be affirmed. The natures of such tasks are up to the Teacher, they may even serve that Teacher's own interests or agenda, and this is acceptable, so long as the task properly prepares the Dreamer in question.

Of course, if a student doesn't like a task or a Teacher doesn't like a student..

the student may find another Teacher, and the Teacher should remember that they choose their students

All of this is a tremendous burden, one that many falter in at one time or another. Even the best of Teachers fail to properly prepare a Dreamer on occasion.

But this must not become common place, for if it did, it would violate that Teacher's oath and force me to act.

The punishment for violation of the oath is harsh and just.

The removal of the power to Train other dreamers and the public stripping of all honors attained thereof.

In the case of a Dreamwright or Dreamsmith, this would mean the loss of that status as well.

Oath

Raise your hand and repeat the Oath as I state it.

As a Teacher, I swear to train only those who are worthy and honorable.

I swear to use my best judgement when granting plateaus or teaching Arts, to insure that only those who are truly ready advance in power.

I swear to uphold the traditions of Teaching as set forward to me by my Teacher and those Teachers who came before him, and to require a task of all who seek my knowledge.

I swear that should I prove unworthy or violate this sacred trust that I will submit to the removal of all powers and honors of the station of Teacher.

"now should there be a mentor her for the teacher candidate this would be said"

(name), stand forward please for I require an oath of the Candidate's Mentor as well.

Teacher, do you swear to guide this Dreamer who was your student and apprentice in the difficult days that come after first receiving this station?

Do you swear to see her growth continue, to catch her/him if he/she falters, and above all to see that she holds to her Oath regardless of any personal relationship between you two?

Then, in the name of the Elder, Turgin Lambent, at whose feet I studied, and in the name of the Three Original Masters from whom he learned, I grant you the station of Teacher.
