Art History
Long ago, before the great cataclysm that we know today as the great loss, the eight great houses of Underlight had what we know today as our house arts, these arts, while hard to perfect, costly to use, and small in their effects, could be devastating if used properly. The history I am about to tell you is about one of the most powerful, The Radiant Blaze. This history begins 3 hours before what we know as the Radiance Wars took place.
The 3 generals of the Radiance looked down upon the valley and saw the standards of, the Dreamers of Light. In preparation of the coming battle, Tybarian ordered the houses SoulMasters to set up makeshift field hospitals on the facade and in the meeting rooms, as well as in the essence room, he also ordered the house DreamSeers to begin digging blasting emplacements, the Gatekeepers were ordered to ward the house and line up and prepare for the incoming army, the FateSenders were to provide covering arts and to deafen the enemy generals and officers to put them in disarray. Overseeing these preparations were the commanders of the house defensive force the Radiance Elite, standing tall in their night and abyss armor, calmly ordering the members of the brigade.
Meanwhile the Dreamers of Light were advancing their armies through the West Valley of Totality, nearing the East Valley. In the circle of rulers lounge, Tybarian knew that the army of The Light greatly outnumbered the Defenders of The Radiance, but the armies of light had a great flaw, they lacked a great many DreamSeers, and he had gotten reports from his scouts that many of the soldiers of the Light were acting odd, shielding their eyes, or breaking formation to hide behind the standard bearers to hide their eyes from the amazingly bright sky of the valley, something that the light's disciplined zealot's normally would not do.
It was then that Tybarian had an idea, he took his generals into the circle of rulers lounge, and each of them removed a necklace that was in the shape of The Star of Radiance, and placed them within openings on the walls, then Tybarian, just as the room fell silent said, "Generals May the Radiance Shine Fourth", and in cascading order, each general, turned their key, audible "clicks" could be heard, then the walls before Tybarian parted, he saw a gleaming blade and his own reflection.
As he reached for the blade he was informed the armies of light had breached the first line of defense and were heading, through the Radiant Archway. Tybarian began to hear screams and blasting, he felt the ground rumble, dust from the ceiling hazed the room, he looked to his generals, and said, this is the time.
He sent his fastest messenger out to get help from the House Calenture, Tybarian looked to his generals, then assembled them and gathered what was left of his warriors that could fight from the hospitals and assembled them in the gathering hall behind him, he lined them up and gave a stirring speech as the light who were just outside on the facade doing battle with the Radiance Elite, and a detachment of brigades men, who had the facade warded, and who were holding them off until reinforcements arrived. But eventually the battered defenders perished and the last line fell, and wards could be heard being shattered outside...
Tybarian heard the enemy generals begin to rally their troops, just before he heard the final charge, Tybarian said, "You will now fight of the Radiance, and for your brothers and your sisters, defend them and your Crusade as if they were your only son!" he began to calm, then rang out sound of the Light's battle cry, his last words as they entered was, "Let the Radiance Shine Fourth!"
As he said that, each of the warriors, as well as the wounded and nurses in the next rooms shouted it, it echoed so loud throughout the whole city, and in that very moment, Tybarian pulled the blade, and Raised it in the air... for a brief moment, the skies turned very dark for the first time ever, the fighting stopped for a moment as they watched in awe... they stared at Tybarian and his blade there was total silence. And just as Tybarian finished the word, "Forth!" a concentrated ray of the Valley's radiance, the very land of the radiance lent it's power to Tybarian, and the beam hit the blade and flashed brightly into the eyes of all present, slightly burning, and blinding every member, of The Light!
Silence Fell.
The members of the Radiance were rendered unaffected, though in awe they were subject to the lights of the valley on a daily basis. Tybarian struggled to keep the blade aloft and aligned with the ray, but in the end the power and heat, shattered the blade into small pieces that scattered all over the house and valley.
On their way up the army of Calenture were in awe at the sparkling showers around them and marched in and vanquished the remaining, defeated and blinded enemy. It had seemed that Calenture had come as, the savior of the Radiance, but in essence they were fighting a burnt and blind army in retreat.
Over the next few days Tybarian had the shards gathered, the generals deemed the sword would not be able to be reforged, but they noticed that the elders who came, to examine the shards, they were temporarily blinded unless visioned, and left a bit tanner than they had been at their arrival. So Tybarian had the shards piled in the library. And when an enemy or mare came the members would quickly flash the shards, and in a bright flash, each shard would shatter into dust, eventually the shards were exhausted.
The Protectors grew to cherish this new ability, and they searched long and hard for the history of that blade, and they found out that the blade was forged from the Soul of Radiance comprised of, the nightmare essence power left after a banishing, and Radiance itself.
They found a method of duplicating the shards, into what we know today as a Power Token, they also found that transferring this ability into an art form rendered the art safer to use, and could be made even powerful than just flashing a talisman. Other houses caught wind of this, and secretly scoured the valley in search of these shards; so that they may one day create a house art of their own... a very ill dreamer took 3 to Calenture with him that night... and gave them to Ghea.
