Each Stronghold has a sanctuary within it to provide protection for the members. These sanctuaries are open for house members only.
The Library of Thornhaven contains portals for nine study halls. Each sphere hall is a sanctuary and has three rooms. Often histories, art details, and philosophic dissertations are recorded on codii and stored in the study halls.
Function
Sanctuaries serve as resting places for dreamers, particularly when nightmares are around. Since the mares will not enter, it gives the dreamers a place to escape to, recover in, or to organize attacks.
When a group of dreamers holds an organised gathering, and house restrictions are not in place, sanctuaries are often used. This provides the participants with protection from surprise attacks, and can also serve as a mediation ground for more serious discussions.
History
Klin Benfar, a Master Dreamwright Elder whose powers far surpassed any of the Dreamwrights or Dreamsmiths, took the first step toward protecting the dreamstate from the Mares when he developed the first Sanctuary. The ambient essence of the Sanctuary area prevented aggressive actions and caused searing pain to any Mare who entered it. Klin Benfar and his apprentices constructed Sanctuaries throughout the dreamstate. Using the Sanctuaries, the Dreamers finally had a foothold with which to stand against the destructive tide of marauding Mares.
