Fayd's Betrayal

Tehthu remained a problem in the Dream City. A House Calenture initiate, Gray Mouser, retained a souvenir of the great battles, holding an essence of Tehthu in his pack, not knowing what corruption this essence would bring. In a moment of weakness, and tainted by the evil of the essence, Gray Mouser surrendered the essence to Fayd with the promise of reward. However, the essence took hold of Fayd's being, paralyzing him and holding him captive as a change started over his form. The Elder cried out for help, begging that Gray Mouser bring forth the Dreamer's Stone to free him from Tehthu's grasp. Fayd lost hold of his avatar, then suddenly appeared in the Caudal Rift, before vanishing for days.

Gray Mouser approached the Dreamers of Light about the problem. After discussion, six of the seven ruling guardians: Kasumi Keda, Carnach, Brain, Watcher, and Valourin, and the Advising Elder Artamor, came to agreement that the house would not give the artifact to Gray Mouser. They were wary about passing the artifact to an initiate of House Calenture. However, no one at this time realized that Fayd was secretly a guardian of Dreamers of Light.

When Fayd returned to the Caudal Rift, Gray Mouser returned to the Dreamers of Light to again ask for the stone. Valourin and Felion, unaware of Fayd's mysterious status, refused to surrender their stone after much argument. Gray Mouser returned to meet Fayd in the Caudal Rift empty-handed. Mouser recounts that when he explained that he was not permitted to bring the Dreamer's Stone, a tear graced Fayd's cheek, and the Dreamwright said: "Without the Dreaming Stone, all is lost."

Meanwhile, Elder Sabra chastised the Light guardians, and after a long discussion, and the revelation of Fayd's status, they came to a compromise. Valourin met with a few others to join Gray Mouser and Fayd in the Caudal Rift, offering Gray Mouser the Dreaming Stone a few moments too late. Fayd had collapsed into the chaos, falling deeply into the vast rifts, only to be replaced by the menacing figure of Tehthu. Once again, the dreamers engaged in a long battle. It became apparent that Tehthu grew stronger with each victory, and his might had grown to great proportions with Fayd's defeat.

Fayd's death brought sadness to the Dream City. His troubled ghost occasionally wandered up Mt. Illapse to haunt the house that betrayed him in his hour of need. Mournful of the disappearance of Fayd, a dreamer named Dena allowed herself to be swallowed by the chaos in search of the Elder. However, upon her return, she had not found him, nor was she the same.

Tehthu's presence seemed to diminish in the Dream City as he slept in the rifts, perhaps readying himself for the next battle. The memory of this first, and most dastardly of dark mares remained. In superstition, dreamers were careful to never utter the true name of the demon, least they bring his curse upon his or herself, or summon his shadow from the darkness.
